20 GW of installed capacity expected for 2026 across Europe
Why this BESS Optimization challenge?
The deployment of BESS systems is taking hype with more than 20 GW of installed capacity expected for 2026 across Europe. But in a competitive market, guarantee cashflows along the full lifecycle of the BESS remains a challenge.
Key benefits
Battery storage is booming, but real value comes from how you operate it, not just how much you install.

How to optimize charging and discharging every day, in every market, while protecting asset life and maximizing returns.

Grid resiliency and operational safety

Improved grid stability by providing additional capabilities to the TSO, while enhancing safety by minimizing the need for human intervention.

How NTT DATA helps

01
OT platforms + OEM platforms

Collects real-time data from the BESS, providing clarity on working variables, performance and status. It is the platform required to manage the load/discharge orders and monitor manufacturer guarantee KPI’s.

02
Data platforms

This is the source of raw data for the following components. It provides data from different domains: weather, commodity prices, storage, network… The key features will be: data quality and validation, data lineage and data government.

Advanced scenario modeling
03
Analytical platforms

They are requested to populate elaborated data that will feed the optimizer. This is the most critical component, as accuracy and bias will influence the decision-making. At least, models should be created to compute demand forecast, generation forecasts and mix, future and short-term power prices, congestion and ancillary services prices.

04
BESS Optimizer

This model compute the best loading/discharge windows, taking in consideration technical constraints from digital twin, market prices and expected lifecycle limits (more cycles per week will reduce the lifetime).

Constraints for Algo trading
05
Strategy generator

Based on the optimal solution provided and the market prices, it will define the most-profitable strategy that commits with the setpoints defined in the previous stage. It will include day-ahead, intraday, continuous intra day, replacement reserve, aFRR and mFRR markets

06
Market-access solution

Once the strategy is defined, a new solution will be required to generate the bids, exchange of information with the market operator and the TSO and receive and process the schedules and nominations.
