Mining never stops. Neither should your digital core

An international mining company modernized its SAP S/4HANA digital backbone to strengthen resilience, scalability and connectivity across distributed mining operations. The transformation moved the core environment from legacy infrastructure to a cloud-enabled architecture while maintaining business continuity through a phased migration.

Resilience is not measured by where your infrastructure runs. It is measured by how quickly your operations can recover.
As critical SAP processes supported multiple regions and remote mining locations, variable performance, infrastructure constraints and recovery limitations increased the need for a more resilient and scalable operational backbone.
目的
Modernize the SAP environment with a resilient, scalable cloud foundation while protecting business continuity and improving connectivity across distributed mining operations.
機会
The modernized core provides a foundation for future AI-enabled operational insights, predictive modelling, AI-assisted forecasting and intelligent automation, while enabling compute, storage and SAP capabilities to scale more easily.
The challenge was not moving SAP to the cloud. The challenge was doing it without putting mining operations at risk.

The transformation needed to address infrastructure, connectivity and recovery constraints while protecting the continuity of critical SAP-supported processes across geographically distributed operations.

主な課題

The initiative required more consistent SAP performance and lower latency for users connecting from remote mining locations.
Personalization at scale
Existing hardware limitations constrained the ability of the SAP environment to scale with future operational requirements.
分断されたシステムから将来対応型アーキテクチャへ
The existing disaster recovery architecture no longer met recovery expectations for business-critical systems.

Connected Mine Operations

SD-WAN connectivity was implemented to provide stable, low-latency connections between headquarters and distributed mining operations.

チェックアイコン
Scalable Cloud Foundation

The SAP landscape was redesigned on a cloud architecture covering compute, storage, networking, identity and high availability, providing greater capacity to scale the core environment.

チェックアイコン
Multi-Region Recovery

Multi-region disaster recovery, synchronization and recovery mechanisms were incorporated to strengthen continuity and significantly reduce recovery objectives.

チェックアイコン
Phased SAP Migration

SAP S/4HANA was migrated progressively across development, QA and production environments, balancing migration speed with stability so business operations could continue throughout the transition.

影響
Cloud becomes the foundation for the next mining transformation.

The transformation reduced Recovery Point Objective by 98%, from approximately 24 hours to 15 minutes, and Recovery Time Objective by 80%, from approximately 24 hours to 4 hours. SAP S/4HANA was migrated across development, QA and production in 3.5 months. Testing across more than eight operational sites also confirmed a more consistent experience, lower round-trip time and improved behaviour during peak loads.
The journey to intelligent mining does not start with AI. It starts with a digital core you can trust.
